If your vape battery or disposable vape has a button, a simple and easy way to unclog your vape is to hold the button and inhale through the top of the vape until your clog clears. When you hold the button the vape coil starts to heat up and begins to melt whatever clog has formed in your vape. The heat from the coil, mixed with the pressure from you inhaling on the vape will generally clear your clog and get your vape working again!
But Michael, what if my vape doesn’t have a button? Don’t worry, keep reading and we have a few other easy ways to unclog your vape!
Blow Through The Bottom Of Your Vape.
When you blow through the bottom of your vape, it tricks the pressure sensor and causes the coil to turn on and start melting your clog. This is going to be the fastest and easiest way to unclog your non-button activated vapes. When you blow through the bottom you should see the light on your vape turn on, which means the coil is on and heating up. Within 5-10 seconds of you blowing through the bottom of your vape you should start to see vapor come out the top of the vape, once this happens your clog is cleared and you can once again begin vaping like normal.
UGHH! Did blowing through the bottom of your vape still not work? Have no fear, we have another sure way to fix your clogged vape!
Use A Hair Dryer To Melt The Clog.
This is almost always guaranteed to work. Grab a hair dryer and turn it on, hold the hair dryer around the center post of your vape, where the coil is located. The heat from the hair dryer will begin to melt the clog allowing you to much easier inhale through the top and get the vape to start working again. You will want to hold the hair dryer to the vape in 10-15 second increments, alternating between each side of the vape. After each 10-15 second increment, try inhaling through the top of the vape to see if the vape will unclog. You may need to do this several times depending on how severe the clog is.
Inhale Through The Vape As Hard As You Can.
I know this sounds like a silly method, but believe me it can and does work! If all other options have failed, your last and final hope may be just to inhale through the vape as hard as you can. The pressure from you inhaling may clear the clog up enough for the vape to start working again.
Why Do Vapes Clog?
Distillate, also known as cannabis oil, tends to be a very thick substance. When cannabis vapes are filled the oil is generally pre-heated, making it become less thick and able to be filled in a vape. However, after the vape has been filled, the oil cools down and becomes thick once again.
At the bottom of every vape holding tank is a coil surrounded by a metal center post. The metal center post has small holes at the bottom of it, allowing for the cannabis oil to enter into the coil. When you inhale the vape or press the button, this causes the coil to heat up and vaporize whatever oil has entered the coil area. This is where the main problem with clogging occurs.
If too much oil enters into the coil, it ends up blocking the airflow and prevents any vapor from making its way up the center post and into your mouth when you inhale. If you have a button activated vape, you should be able to hold the button and melt the oil that’s blocking the airflow. However, if you do not have a button activated device, when you go to inhale the vape like normal, the blockage prevents the coil from ever turning on, therefore not allowing the clog to melt. This is why blowing through the bottom of your clogged vape is the best and easiest way to unclog your vape.
When you blow through the bottom of your clogged vape it forces the coil to turn on, and the heat the coil generates begins to melt the oil blocking your airflow. With non-button, pull activated vapes, if there is a clog in your coil, when you go to inhale the vape, the coil never actually turns on. The coil doesn’t turn on because there is generally a sensor at the bottom of the vape that senses when you inhale through the top of the vape. However, if there is oil blocking the airflow, the sensor doesn’t get activated, because the airflow is blocked.
How Do I Prevent My Vape From Clogging Again Once It’s Unclogged?
Now that you have unclogged your vape using one of our 4 methods, we have a few ways to prevent your vape from clogging again. We recommend gently vaping your vape, we say do this gently because we are trying to melt any excess oil that has built up in your coil or center post. If you hit the vape very hard, over and over again, you will cause more oil to enter the center post, causing the vape to once again clog once the oil cools down. The more you hit your vape, the hotter the coil gets, and the more the oil heats up. The more the cannabis oil heats up, the more likely you are to once again have a clogged vape.
So once you clear your clog, gently continue to hit your vape, vaporizing any additional oil that has built up in your coil, but DO NOT hit the vape super hard over and over again.
