You Can Always Take More, But Never Less
If you are considering take weed or THC edibles for the first time, it is important to keep in mind that you can always take more, but you can never take less, we call this the Golden Rule. The last thing you want to do is take too many edibles your first time and have a negative experience.
One of the biggest mistakes people make when taking weed edibles for the first time, is they eat more before the first ones have kicked in. We understand why, you just took your first edible, you’re feeling excited and you are waiting for it to kick in. Since you have no previous experience taking edibles, you assume that you did not take enough, or that it isn’t working, so you decide to take more.
DO NOT DO THIS.
Consuming weed or THC edibles is a very different experience than vaping or smoking THC. When you vape or smoke, you feel the effects almost instantly. However when you eat an edible, your body must digest it before the effects of the THC start to show.
If you get impatient, and decide to eat more, you risk having a very negative experience. Keep reading to find out more!
How Should I Expect To Feel?
Weed edibles can and will effect everyone differently depending on an individuals tolerance, metabolism, and more. However some generalizations can be made.
For a new consumer, assuming you took a reasonable dose, you should feel a sense of euphoria, relaxation and a pleasant “high”. Many people say they get enhanced creativity and introspection. You may also experience heightened senses , making colors seem brighter, sounds more distinct or tastes more intense.
Now for someone who took an unreasonable or very large dose, the experience may be very different. If too large a dose is taken there are several different things that may occur. You may get tunnel vision, extremely anxious, be unable to move or walk due to the intense high. People have also experienced nausea, causing them to throw up and become sick. While getting too high WILL NOT kill you, it is a rather unpleasant experience that can last a few hours.
No matter what though, once you have taken the edibles you must accept your fate. Instead of trying to fight it, or getting anxious, you must embrace it. Let the high come on, try to enjoy it, and just ride it out.
Now I know that may sound scary, but as long as you take a proper dose you should have nothing to worry about. Consuming THC edibles is a lot like consuming alcohol. Drinking a few beers will have a very different effect than drinking an entire bottle of hard alcohol. For your first edible experience make sure you take the drinking a few beers approach, and not consuming an entire bottle of liquor approach.
How Many MG Should I Take?
While cannabinoids have the potential to produce dramatically different effects from person to person, you can generally assume that a brand new user will begin to feel the effects of cannabis edibles in doses as small as 5 or 10 mg. With the Golden Rule in mind, a first time user should try 5 or 10 mg and then wait up to 2 hours before considering consuming more.
Most edibles make it easy to ramp up incrementally, meaning you can add 5 or 10 mg at a time until you reach the desired effect. You can also split your edibles into smaller portions. Additionally, cannabis has the potential to produce a tolerance quickly, and experienced users may consume 100mg or more in a single sitting.
Keep in mind that metabolizing weed through digestion also produces a molecule called 11-OH-THC, so in addition to the Delta 9 THC producing effects, you are also going to feel the effects of 11-OH-THC, which is typically stronger than inhaling traditional cannabis. This means the same amount of THC will get you more “high” simply by digesting it rather than smoking it. Of course, you must ensure you are consuming properly prepared and decarboxylated edibles, as eating cannabis flower on its own will not produce the effects that most consumers are looking for.
How Long Does It Take Weed Edibles To Kick In?
Most people will experience the effects of consuming weed edibles within 30 minutes to 2 hours. People with higher metabolisms may feel the effects sooner than someone with a slower metabolism.
Assuming this is your first time taking edibles it is always better to be safe than sorry. Because of this, we recommend you take 5-10mg, and then wait at LEAST 2 hours before taking more.
As you become more familiar and experienced with taking weed edibles you will be able to gauge the amount needed yourself and adjust how many mg and how often you take them!
How Long Do Weed Edibles Last?
In general a weed edible will last between 2-4 hours, however this can very drastically based on a persons tolerance and the dosage taken.
If this is your first time, we recommend setting aside at least 3-4 hours before you need to do anything. Since you don’t know exactly what to expect, you will want to be in a relaxed and stress free environment.
Once your edibles have fully kicked in, you can decide if you would like to take more. If you started with 5-10mg of THC, we would recommend taking another 5-10mg about 2 hours later, if you want to experience stronger and longer lasting effects.
What Are The Potential Benefits Of Weed Edibles?
Weed edibles can provide a variety of positive effects for users. These effects typically arise due to the interaction between THC and the body’s endocannabinoid system. Some of the positive effects of weed edibles include:
Long-Lasting Relief – Edibles provide prolonged relief from symptoms compared to other methods of consumption. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals seeking long-term relief from chronic pain, inflammation, or insomnia.
Potent Relaxation – Many users report a deep sense of relaxation and tranquility after consuming edibles. This can help alleviate stress, anxiety, and tension, promoting a calm and peaceful state of mind.
Enhanced Mood – THC in edibles can uplift mood and induce feelings of happiness and euphoria. This can be especially beneficial for individuals dealing with mood disorders such as depression or seasonal affective disorder.
Heightened Sensory Perception – Some users experience heightened sensory perception after consuming edibles, leading to enhanced appreciation of music, art, food, and nature.
Creativity and Focus – For some individuals, weed edibles can enhance creativity and focus, making it easier to engage in artistic pursuits, brainstorming sessions, or problem-solving activities.
Improved Sleep – Edibles may help regulate sleep patterns and promote better quality sleep for individuals struggling with insomnia or other sleep disorders.
Appetite Stimulation – THC is known to stimulate appetite, often referred to as having the “munchies.” This can be beneficial for individuals with medical conditions that cause a lack of appetite or weight loss.
Overall, weed edibles can offer a range of positive effects, making them a popular choice for both recreational and medicinal users. Negative effects like lethargy or nausea can usually be combated by following the Golden Rule.
Where To Buy Weed Edibles
As a result of the 2018 Farm Bill, there are essentially 2 separate avenues you can take to get weed edibles in the US.
In some states, there is either a medical or recreational dispensary you can buy your weed edibles from. You may need a medical card or you may simply need to be 21 years of age or older, so check the cannabis rules in your own state.
Thankfully however, due to the 2018 Farm Bill you can now find THC edibles online and in stores across the country. There are many different brands selling different types of THC edibles. A quick google search or visit to your local smoke shop should provide you with a variety of good options.
If you would like our recommendation, we would recommend the THC gummies sold by our brand CleanAF CBD. We offer a few different types of THC gummies, available in 5 or 10mg per gummy. They are extremely delicious, and can be easily ripped in half if you prefer to take smaller doses. All our gummies are lab tested for potency and vegan!
If you want to try our gummies out head over to our CleanAF CBD website and use discount code “weededibles” at checkout for 15% off your order.
The third place to find cannabis edibles is the illicit or “black’ market. Many of these products could come without accurate lab testing or adherence to production safety measures, so in this case, you’re taking a shot in the dark.
